Lance Smith, host of CMT TOP 20 COUNTDOWN, joined CMT as the network’s first VJ in 2001. In addition to his regular series hosting duties, Smith brings his own unique style to hosting specials such as the CMT MOST WANTED LIVE TOUR, CMT GREATEST ROAD TRIPS and frequent guest spots on CMT’s weekly show CMT INSIDER. A Tennessee native, Smith pursued a career in acting and landed small roles on several TV sitcoms during a brief stint in Los Angeles after high school. A life-long fan of music, he landed his first gig in country music as the Dixie Chicks’ 2000 Fly Tour emcee, crowd-pleaser and overall entertainer between acts. His musical background, combined with years of theater and on-camera experience is a natural fit for CMT. Smith recounts interviewing Dolly Parton, Sting and Morgan Freeman among his career highlights with CMT. He’s often seen on the red carpets of major music award shows, including the CMT MUSIC AWARDS, CMAs and ACMs. Smith recently served as a celebrity hero for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation “Kids 4 Kids” event in New York City, and is a champion for numerous charitable organizations throughout the Nashville community. |
